Encouraging news out of India, the Huffington Post reported that an Indian based pharmaceutical company out of Hyderabad may be the first to develop a vaccine to fight against the Zika virus. The company, Bharat Biotech, at a recent press conference, claims that they have made a breakthrough in the vaccine development.
The Company has two candidate vaccines that have been in development for the past year or so.
In case anyone has missed out, the Zika virus is transmitted by mosquito and has symptoms similar to a mild dengue fever. We could try and write a full explanation of what exactly Zika is, but thankfully, others have already done a much better job for us. “The Zika virus is in active transmission in south and central America, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is now present in 23 countries as per WHO, and Brazil is the hardest-hit where at least 3,530 cases resulting in serious birth defect have been reported.” – Huffington Post India.
